St Louis City SC have unveiled that Nestle Purina PetCare will be their first kit partner and sponsor ahead of their debut season in Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2023.
The agreement will see the global pet food brand feature prominently both on and off the pitch when St Louis City join the North American men's soccer league.
Purina shares similarities with the team, as both are based in the city of St Louis and are both female-led organisations, with Nina Leigh Krueger serving as the company’s president and chief executive.
The two parties have claimed that the partnership will see St Louis City become the most pet-friendly club in the league.
“We have always been committed to choosing partners who embody the STLMade movement, representing the spirit of a new St Louis, so we are thrilled to partner with an iconic company like Purina that has such deep roots in St Louis,” said Carolyn Kindle Betz, St Louis City’s chief executive. “Not only does Purina share our love for St Louis, but they also have our same vision of working to make our community stronger.
“I couldn’t think of a better company to be our club’s first founding partner and to be represented on the front of our team’s kit.”
St Louis City were originally expected to join MLS in 2022, however, the league amended its timeline for expansion due to the pandemic, meaning each team scheduled to join the competition has had its entry date pushed back a year.
