The Portland Timbers and their ladies team, the Portland Thorns, have become the first US soccer teams to sign a multi-year strategic partnership with social media giants, TikTok.
The short-form mobile video social media application TikTok, will now become an official sleeve sponsor of the Portland Timbers and Thorns. Their logo is set to appear on the right sleeve of both teams' official match jerseys for the 2021 MLS season.
“TikTok is one of the world’s leading content and entertainment platforms and we are thrilled to be partnering with such a dynamic global brand,” said Mike Golub, Timbers and Thorns FC president of business.
“The partnership is groundbreaking to have equal TikTok representation on both Timbers and Thorns jersey sleeves, and it will give us a unique ability to create and distribute content in collaboration with TikTok. We are very proud that TikTok chose our clubs as two of their first team sponsorship deals in the US.”
As part of the deal, both the Timbers and Thorns have created a official TikTok account, in which they produce weekly content which includes match highlights, behind-the-scenes clips, fan reactions and more.
Also included in the deal, is a collaboration of TikTok and Portland Timbers ‘Stand Together’ Campaign, who together have created the TikTok for Good campaign, meaning that a portion of each jersey sold will go towards a local non-profit organisation.
