Northern Premier League - North West Division side Marine A.F.C have announced a series of single game sponsorship deals ahead of their historic FA Cup tie this Sunday with Tottenham Hotspur.
The eighth-division side were due to play the Premier League side in front of fans at the Marine Travel Arena before COVID-19 restrictions were implemented once again to prevent fans from attending and Marine A.F.C from reaping the financial benefits of the eye-catching FA Cup fixture.
Yesterday, the Liverpool based club announced a single game shirt sponsorship deal with subscription based sports website, The Athletic.
The Athletics logo is set to appear on the back of the Marine A.F.C players' shirt, below the number.
In a statement released by Aki Mandhar, the UK general manager of The Athletic, said: “We love amazing football moments and stories at The Athletic and they don’t get more compelling or romantic than this Marine FC vs Tottenham Hotspur FA Cup tie”.
“At a time when grassroots community clubs are under more strain than ever, due to missing gate receipts, the opportunity to sponsor and support Marine FC and help sustain their future success was a no-brainer and opportunity welcomed. Good Luck Marine FC!”.
As well as The Athletic’s shirt sponsorship, the club revealed that milk production company, Arla Cravendale will be the front of shirt sponsorship for the game. As part of this partnership, Arla Cravendale agreed to work with Marine A.F.C’s community project to supply vouchers to the elderly and vulnerable in the local area.
Additionally, sports fashion retailer, JD Sports will be a sleeve sponsor on the game that is sure to attract the interest of many footballs fans across the country.
The overwhelming sponsorship deals didn't end there however, after the largest Tottenham Hotspur fan site in North America, SB Nation - Cartilage Free Captain, was announced as Marine’s back of shorts sponsor for the FA Cup tie in a deal worth around £9,000. The money was donated by Cartilage Free Captain’s network of supporters.
The deal includes a £1,425 investment into a construction project at Marine A.F.C’s ground.
The historic game will be held at the Marine Travel Arena on Sunday 10th January, and will be available to watch live on BBC One from 16:30. It will be the biggest gulf in teams at this stage of the FA Cup in the competitions history.
