Chinese social media platform, Douyin, have added Manchester City onto their growing list of partnerships with European Football giants.
Manchester City are the latest European football giant to add Douyin as an official partner, following suit behind La Liga and FC Bayern Munich. La Liga has now racked up over 1.6 million followers on the app, and FC Bayern Munich over 1.1 million.
Douyin will work with Manchester City to share exclusive short video content such as interviews, match highlights and also documentary clips. Including this, the deal will launch a number of activations for fans in China.
The social media application is extremely popular in mainland China. It is run by the same company that makes the well-known application, TikTok, which now has at least 800 million monthly users, and has only been growing in size since its launch in 2017.
TikTok may be more well-known globally, but Douyin still generates most of the revenue for the apps’ Beijing-based owner ByteDance. The mainland Chinese market accounted for 89 per cent of the two apps’ combined revenue in May, followed by 6.2 per cent from the US.
