The NBA has decided against punishing LA Lakers forward Lebron James after a violation of the leagues COVID-19 protocol.
James, attended an outdoor promotional event on May 17 for Lobos 1797 Tequila with Drake and Michael B. Jordan, just days before the Lakers’ 103-100 win against the Golden State Warriors.
Following the news that James had attended the event, an NBA spokesperson told ESPN that James’ actions were a ‘violation of agreed upon protocols’.
However, the statement made to ESPN has since been countered, now saying, "To clarify any remaining misconception, LeBron James briefly attended an outdoor event last week where participants were required to be vaccinated or return a negative test result,"
Further adding, "Under these circumstances and in consultation with medical experts, it was determined that his attendance did not create risks related to the spread of COVID-19 and therefore no quarantine was necessary”.
Current NBA rules state that if a player is vaccinated, they are permitted to to engage in outside activities, such as individual commercial and sponsorship arrangements. It is currently unclear as to whether James has been vaccinated.
The Lakers star has been asked on numerous occasions whether he has received his vaccination for the virus, but he has replied stating that it is personal matter.
