Rugby legends Austin Healey and Will Greenwood have teamed up to launch a Festival of Sport, set to take place this summer.
The pair have acquired number of greats from a variety of sports to take part in the event, which will be hosted a North Norfolk's Holkham Estate between August 13 and August 15, 2021. The festival will provide children with an opportunity to discover and learn about a variety of sports and be coached in them by the legends themselves.
COVID-19 has seen activity levels drop amongst children who have been forced into their home under lockdown restrictions and both Greenwood and Healey are focused on generating some positivity for the whole family by holding the festival, which will also include entertainment, camping and other activities across the weekend.
The sporting legends confirmed to be attending the event are, England rugby internationals, Rachael Burford and Mike Tindall; former England cricket captain, Sir Andrew Strauss; Olympic gold medalist and GB hockey player Alex Danson; Olympic and World champion rowers Helen Glover and Anna Watkins; former England international netballer Pam Cookey; former Liverpool and England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland; TV naturalist and presenter Steve Backshall; and Celebrity Who Dares Wins star, Jason Fox.
The festival is aimed at children aimed five to 17, where they will be given the chance to try different sports such as athletics, cricket, football, gymnastics, hockey, netball, rowing, rugby and tennis, as well different sports like trampolining, climbing, golf and dodgeball.
“As parents, we were acutely aware of the impact this year has had on families and especially kids,” said Healey.
“We want to do something to bring the fun back into people’s lives and bring families together. We can’t wait to get families engaged and active outside in this beautiful environment.”
Greenwood added: “We recognise that not every kid gets involved in the same way. Our mantra for the festival is that ‘no-one gets left on the bench’.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re a budding junior champion or just want to stick your toe in the water and try something new. There’s something for everyone.”
Entertainment at the festival will include live music, an outdoor cinema, a Taste of Norfolk food village and a beach not too far away.
“We are thrilled to be hosted by Holkham Estate” said Clare Morton, Co-Founder & Managing Director of Festival of Sport.
“With its acres of parkland, woods, and lake, it really is a magical place and the most perfect location to create an oasis of activity and fun for our inaugural event.”
