HaysMac and Premier Sports Network Release Pulse Survey on National Insurance Impact in Sport
The final report from the HaysMac x Premier Sports Network Pulse Survey has been released, offering a snapshot of how the UK sport sector is reacting to recent National Insurance and Minimum Wage increases.
The survey conducted among 31 organisations, including governing bodies, professional clubs, and sports businesses paints a clear picture: 81% of respondents expect a direct operational impact from these financial changes.
“The sport sector is a vibrant and essential part of our economy,” said Tom Wilson, Partner and Head of Sport at HaysMac. “These reforms present significant cost challenges, and understanding how the sector is responding is critical to maintaining stability and growth.”
Key Findings
81% of organisations expect to make changes due to increased costs.
74% of event-hosting organisations plan to raise ticket prices, with most increases between 2–5%.
Over half of respondents are taking multiple measures to balance cost pressures — from price adjustments to operational restructuring.
35% are planning or considering headcount reductions, particularly across marketing, matchday, and athlete support roles.
Despite rising costs, two-thirds of organisations said there would be no major slowdown in investment, with several redirecting budgets toward technology efficiency projects.
Balancing Growth and Cost Pressures
While the data highlights resilience, it also signals warning signs. Many respondents anticipate slower infrastructure spending, smaller wage increases, and higher prices for fans — trends that could affect long-term sector growth if left unaddressed.
Some optimism remains, however, with an increase in technology investment as clubs and organisations look to drive efficiency and reduce manual overheads.
Industry Collaboration and Next Steps
The collaboration between HaysMac and Premier Sports Network reflects a shared commitment to supporting financial transparency and resilience in the sports industry.
“By listening to the sector and sharing data-driven insights, we hope to help decision-makers plan effectively for the challenges ahead,” added Wilson.
